ORIGINAL ART

Appraising original art requires skill, experience, education, and the ability to describe and communicate value. The definition of original art is art that was created as one unique piece. Original art can be paintings, murals, water colored, mixed, or with other materials. In most cases original art is often more valuable than mass produced art prints.

In appraising original art the appraiser takes the following into consideration:

    • The identity of the artist
    • The condition of the art such as color fading, corners folding, or water damage
    • The composition or design of the piece and how it relates to the artists work, and the lineage of the provenance of the art
    • The medium used to create the art
